Goals of the Zachor Antisemitism Initiative
- To offer assistance to schools dealing with incidents of antisemitism and other types of hatred
- To assist parents in navigating school bureaucracies when they are dealing with religious accommodations, antisemitism and other challenges impacting Jewish students
- To provide resources to school administrators and teachers about accommodations for students observing Jewish holidays and customs
- To consult with administrators and teachers regarding the teaching of units connected to Jewish history or the Jewish faith, such as the Holocaust
- To create or coordinate community programming and resources that raise awareness about the Holocaust and contemporary antisemitism
- To serve on the Jewish communal response team to incidents of local antisemitism
Our Zachor Director will work to:
In Schools
- Create/curate resource materials for social studies and language arts teachers teaching Holocaust and other relevant themes
- Proactively develop relationships with key stakeholders including administrators and teachers to advance our goals
- Provide resources to schools to respond to incidents of antisemitism including connecting them with our partners at the Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance and Education, Facing History, and the ADL
- Work with parents, students, teachers, and administrators to create comprehensive programs in schools to combat antisemitism and other forms of hate and bigotry
- Work with the Zachor Committee to plan and implement the annual Stop Hate Challenge and Symposium
In the Community
- Work with the Zachor Committee to create relevant public programming on Holocaust and contemporary antisemitism
- Work with community partners including District Attorney and Orange County Human Rights Commission on shared projects
- Work with the Executive Director, President, Zachor Committee, and CRC to craft public statements in response to local incidents and/or media requests
