Meet Dr. Irving Finkel of the British Museum

6:30PM - 9:00PM

Newburgh Jewish Community Center 290 North Street
Newburgh, NY

Author of, "The Ark Before Noah", Dr. Finkel's illustrated talk is about the discoveries that have come out of
studying the round ark cuneiform tablet. Scholars have known since 1872 that the flood story so familiar to everybody from the book of Genesis was also known to the ancient Babylonians, the inhabitants of ancient Mesopotamia. There, the flood story is part of the famous Gilgamesh story, dating to about 700 BC. This newly discovered tablet dates to about 1750 BC and so is one thousand years older, thus pushing the story back to some 4000 years ago.

Dr. Finkel will look at the origin of the flood myth and trace its evolution from the ancient cuneiform world
through the Hebrew Bible into our modern world.

$5.00/pp, Dessert Reception to follow. Books will be available for purchase.
