In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the library will be showing the 1993 Academy Award winning film "Schindler's List", released 30 years ago this year. There will be a short intermission halfway through the film.

Linda Dubin, a local Florida NY resident and Friend of the Florida Library, will give an introduction to the movie and explain why we observe Holocaust Remembrance Day and why this movie was chosen to commemorate this observance.

After watching the movie there will be a short discussion on why the viewers think Oskar Schindler chose to save 1,100 Jewish people.

This is a FREE event, Open to the Public.

A note from Linda Dubin:

Recently, Jennifer Younghans, a Social Studies teacher in Middletown High School, who teaches classes about the Holocaust: visited the Florida NY Library. Jennifer inquired about me and the movie "Schindler’s List".

I remembered Jennifer Younghans when I organized Holocaust Remembrance Day memorial programs, (I did it for about 8 years at Temple Sinai, Middletown). We had several of Jennifer's students participate in our TempleSinai program, they read poems about the Holocaust. After a hiatus of several years she is teaching Holocaust classes again in Middletown High School, and now lives near me in Florida NY. Jennifer and some of her students may   attend the Holocaust Rememnerance Day Program, "Schindler's List" at the Florida Public Library..
