The Jewish Federations support JDC's Ariel Job Centers in Riga, Latvia and Tallinn, Estonia, which battle rising unemployment and poverty among Jews in the Baltics. The centers, based on a pioneering model that continues to help Argentina’s Jews recover in the wake of that country’s economic crisis, provide classes and training on job hunting, interviewing, resume-building and computer skills. As you are aware, the Dow is at an 18 month high.  This will result in having to pay significant capital gains taxes to sell  stock.  BUT if the stock is donated to any 501(c)3 organization, like the Jewish Federation, you will receive the full value to your donation plus avoid paying capital gains tax.  The current long-term capital gains tax rate is: Federal 15% (for those whose tax bracket is over 15%) and state taxes apply as well.
